Call Out - DLG Consortium – A Freelancer’s Perspective

Dance Leaders Group (DLG) is a network of dance professionals across the Midlands who share a collective passion for inspiring and engaging people in dance and movement.

The coordination of DLG is held by a consortium of organisations who commit human and financial resource to support the continued development and delivery of DLG.

It is important that the consortium includes a freelance perspective so we are looking for two freelance dance leaders, either emerging or established, to join the consortium. The consortium is led by Dancefest and meets for an hour once a month, on-line, with an agenda shared in advance.

Through these meetings consortium members agree to;

  • Provide advice and support regarding the programming and agenda for the annual DLG summits, including identifying appropriate speakers and organisations for talks and webinars;

  • Ensure that summit, talk and webinar programming responds to themes and questions expressed by the wider DLG network, as well as topics of national, regional and sectoral significance;

  • Advocate for DLG and remain alert to, and ambitious for, opportunities for DLG to participate in and contribute to projects and events of national, regional or sectoral significance.

We are looking for 2 x Midlands-based Dance Leaders (a deliverer, producer, teacher or coordinator in the Midlands dance sector) to join this consortium;

  • To attend monthly consortium (one hour) meetings and provide a ‘freelancer voice’

  • Contribute to DLG and the consortium as outlined above

  • This will be a 1 year fixed-term contract (Jan-Dec 2027)

  • Renumeration - £50/meeting to include prep and some follow up after meetings (within reason)

We are looking for individuals who have previous experience as part of DLG (Summits, Steering Group, Projects); are well connected with other freelancers and independents in the region; and are excited by the opportunity to help shape the direction of the group over the next 12 months.

You might be a freelancer or be from a project funded dance organisation. We are looking for a balanced voice on the consortium and people who can offer different perspectives from the Dance Leaders community.

How to apply

Please send a short application, either written (no more than 500 words), video or audio (no longer than 5 minutes) explaining; your understanding of DLG, why you are interested in the freelance role, what you feel you can offer to the consortium and your current work and experience. Please send applications to dancedevelopmentleadersgroup@gmail.com by 12 noon on 30 November.

If you would like a brief conversation about the role before sending an application, please email at the address above.

Applications will be shortlisted by members of the consortium and 2 x DLG members. We hope for a high level of interest which is why the role is fixed at a one year term, allowing more people to take them up over the coming years.
